Generation E4 Summer Program

Objective

The Generation E4 (Education, Enrichment, Engineering, and Entrepreneurship) Summer Program goal is to decrease summer learning loss by keeping our students engaged in academic activities and enrichment exercises.

Students make great strides in becoming proficient in both mathematics and science. Our program helps reinforce what has been learned during the school year in order to help students make easy transitions back into the classroom in the Fall of each upcoming year.

Description

Our program makes vital use of the six weeks we have with our students (grades 1-6).  They are with us for six hours per day, five days per week as we provide a learning model based in STEM-related fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Exposing our students to these areas may help them decide what they want to do for a future profession.

Like the afterschool program, the summer program’s mission is to help students become proficient in both mathematics and science. A variety of testing measures that resemble Maryland’s standardized tests are given to help monitor student progress. The summer program also focuses on the spiritual development of its students through a Christ-centered approach.  It provides students with two nutritious meals, arts and crafts activities, enriching field trips, special interest clubs, recreation, and cultural activities.  Some educational trips include the Smithsonian Institute, Maryland Science Center and Woodberry Crossing.

Impact

  • During summer 2011, 55 students were served
  • Mathematics and Sciences testing scores coming soon!
